Why We Recommend Subcision Scar at AcneClinicNYC

Why We Recommend Subcision Scar at AcneClinicNYC:

At AcneClinicNYC, we know that tethered acne scars need special care. These scars are pulled down by fibrous bands beneath the skin, making lasers and microneedling less effective. Subcision releases these bands, lifting the scar and creating a smoother surface. By starting with subcision, we set the stage for advanced treatments like CO2 lasers and RF microneedling to work better, giving you smoother, more even, and long-lasting results. It’s a simple first step that makes a big difference in achieving the clear skin you deserve.

How it works:

Subcision works by gently releasing the fibrous bands that tether indented acne scars, allowing the skin to lift and smooth out. The procedure stimulates natural collagen production, improving skin texture and reducing scar depth over time. Depending on your needs and the area being treated, our specialists may use either a needle or a cannula to achieve the best results.

FAQ

How does subcision improve the appearance of tethered acne scars?
faq unit arrow

Subcision releases the fibrous bands pulling the skin down. It loosens the tissues and results in smoother, more even skin.

How soon will I see results?
faq unit arrow

Some improvement can be seen after the first session, but optimal results typically appear after a series of treatments, including lasers and RF microneedling.

Does the treatment hurt?
faq unit arrow

Most of our clients experience some discomfort, which is bearable for most even without a numbing cream. tenderness and bruising may occur afterward.

Can Subcision be combined with other treatments?
faq unit arrow

Yes! It is often combined with laser treatments for enhanced results. We see very good results with combining subcision with PRP microneedling in the same session.

How long do results last?
faq unit arrow

All the results you achieve stay with you forever. Results are long-lasting, especially when combined with proper skincare and further treatments that are personalized for your type of scarring.

What if I want to do other scar treatments as well?
faq unit arrow

If you have tethered scars, subcision is highly recommended before doing things like microneedling.

When can I return to the gym?
faq unit arrow

You may return to the gym after 48 hours.

Can subcision be effective by itself?
faq unit arrow

Yes. Subcision can improve the appearance of tethered acne scars on its own by releasing the fibrous bands that pull the scar down. This allows the skin to lift naturally and creates a smoother texture. However, at AcneClinicNYC, we often use subcision as a preparatory step before advanced treatments like CO2 lasers or RF microneedling. By releasing the tethered scars first, subsequent treatments become more effective and deliver longer-lasting, even results.

Do you use any fillers or regenerative materials with subcision?
faq unit arrow

Yes. We often combine subcision with autologous regenerative options like platelet concentrates (PRF – platelet-rich fibrin or PRP – platelet-rich plasma), which support healing and collagen stimulation. In some cases, we also use biostimulatory fillers such as Bellafill or Sculptra. Subcision can also be performed without any additional materials, depending on the patient’s needs and scar type.
