Subcision Scar Treatment
Subcision is an invasive procedure that targets depressed, indented scars caused by acne. By releasing the fibrous bands of the skin, subcision allows the skin to lift the scar and loosen dense fibrous bands. It promotes collagen production, resulting in a smoother, more even texture.

Why We Recommend Subcision Scar at AcneClinicNYC:
At AcneClinicNYC, we know that tethered acne scars need special care. These scars are pulled down by fibrous bands beneath the skin, making lasers and microneedling less effective. Subcision releases these bands, lifting the scar and creating a smoother surface. By starting with subcision, we set the stage for advanced treatments like CO2 lasers and RF microneedling to work better, giving you smoother, more even, and long-lasting results. It’s a simple first step that makes a big difference in achieving the clear skin you deserve.
How it works:
Subcision works by gently releasing the fibrous bands that tether indented acne scars, allowing the skin to lift and smooth out. The procedure stimulates natural collagen production, improving skin texture and reducing scar depth over time. Depending on your needs and the area being treated, our specialists may use either a needle or a cannula to achieve the best results.

Yes. Subcision can improve the appearance of tethered acne scars on its own by releasing the fibrous bands that pull the scar down. This allows the skin to lift naturally and creates a smoother texture. However, at AcneClinicNYC, we often use subcision as a preparatory step before advanced treatments like CO2 lasers or RF microneedling. By releasing the tethered scars first, subsequent treatments become more effective and deliver longer-lasting, even results.
Yes. We often combine subcision with autologous regenerative options like platelet concentrates (PRF – platelet-rich fibrin or PRP – platelet-rich plasma), which support healing and collagen stimulation. In some cases, we also use biostimulatory fillers such as Bellafill or Sculptra. Subcision can also be performed without any additional materials, depending on the patient’s needs and scar type.
