About Acne: How Acne Works

Frequently asked questions from our clients about clearing Acne, and Skincare.

For your convenience and understanding, we have answered our most common customer questions to assist your understanding about us, our products and the process.

What is the key to having clear skin?

Start off by making sure you have good habits with cleaning your skin, using acne-safe products that help the process of eliminating acne and consistent visits to a acne specialist to guide you through the process and to do professional acne treatments that include extractions.

How is your acne treatment program different?

We are very focus on improving your skin in a timely manner and want to create a more personable and customized experience. We use our initial treat to gauge your skin and then create a fully customized plan for you for home. The more customized the treatment is, the better results you will get. We know that all skin types are not the same and it's important to understand what type of skin a person has in order to produce positive results.

Is it possible get rid of acne scars?

Yes, it's possible. Depending on the severity of your skin, we will determine whether we will be able to help with your scarring or you will need to visit a dermatologist. Also, a lot of the times you might think you have acne scars but in reality they are just brown, purple or red marks left behind by old skin that was damaged or poorly treated acne . They aren't really acne scars and we will be able to help you with this. The official term for it is Post Inflammatory Hyper-pigmentation. The way we would go about treating these acne marks is by using a few light chemical peels with a complimentary set of acne-safe products you will use routinely.  If you have real acne scars, they tend to be a lot deeper and as if you have a small indentation or pitting inside of your skin, in which we provide Micro-needling for helping to smooth and slowly eliminate pitted scars.

Why do I need professional and acne-safe products for my acne?

The products on the market are very generic and only help certain types of skin types, but doesn't help with all acne. This causes you spend a lot of time and money trying to find the perfect solution with products meant for the average person. Our specialists will acne know the best products for you because we understand all the skin types there are and which products work best for each skin type. Saving you from any headaches.

Can prescribed antibiotics help clear my acne?

Many doctors are prescribing antibiotics patients with little knowledge about your skin and what it really takes to fix your acne. Where in reality you need a customized solution that is provided by a specialist. Acne can be varied by the person, so 1 type of acne solution isn't always going to fix everyone's problem. The problem is that antibiotics might only work for a small period of time and won't provide long term solutions. It also only deals with the bacterial side of acne as opposed to the real issues that can associated depending on the type of skin. Which means that when you're off the antibiotics, your acne will most likely continue. This probably not the best solution since it's a hit or miss, has no long term results and is also dangerous for your health if you decide to do it long-term (Side effects).

Accutane is probably the most commonly prescribed for Acne which is a really strong drug with dangerous side effects like permanent sensitive or dry skin. Bigger side effects include potential for depression, birth defects, Crohn’s disease, internal organ damage, muscle and bone loss, central nervous system damage, immune system disorders, etc. And acne usually returns after stopping the antibiotic. Our recommendation is to speak to an acne professional from Acne Clinic NYC and see all the options you have before diving into Accutane.

Do you treat Rosacea Acne?

Yes, we can treat your Rosacea acne as well.

What if I like far from your Acne Clinic in NYC? Will you still be able to assist me with my acne?

Definitely, that's why we added a long distance program in order to assist anyone in a similar situation or just be able to reach anyone who needs our help.

You would need to be committed to follow our customized home plan, step by step guide, routinely using your prescribed skin care regimen, talking with one of our Acne specialists every 2 weeks so we can discuss the progress through email. The length of the program is as long as you need it!
